Did you know that you can buy most of your prescription medications over the counter in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico?

It’s no joke that medications in the United States can be outrageously expensive. Residents have long been seeking alternatives to buying their meds in the U. S., resorting to purchasing their medications in other North American countries like Canada & Mexico.

Many people come to Mexico specifically for the medical treatments, dental work and the easily accessible medications. On just about every corner in the city lies a pharmacy where you can purchase everything from antibiotics to narcotics, no prescription needed and for a fairly affordable price.

The types of medications you can find here are broad, such as low cost generic anxiety medications including Ativan, Valium, Diazepam, Rivotril and Xanax. There were also choices for super strength pain killers such as Tylenol 3 and Voltaren, and muscle relaxers. ADHD sufferers can load up on Ritalin and Adderall and dieters determined to lose weight with medication have their fair choice as well.

Briefcase - The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a recall of over 1,300 drugs and other drugs in a recall of prescription drugs used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in the United States, including Viagra, Cialis, Levitra, and other ED drugs. This recall was due to the presence of the active ingredient sildenafil, the chemical name for the drug sildenafil.

In order to ensure that the product is safe and effective, the FDA required the manufacturers of the products to provide a warning about sildenafil and the risk of serious side effects if you are taking any of the following drugs:

  • Sildenafil- This medication works by inhibiting the enzyme PDE-5, which is responsible for the breakdown of cGMP (a substance that causes smooth muscle relaxation in the penis). This is the mechanism of action of sildenafil. Sildenafil may also decrease nitric oxide (NO), a compound that stimulates the relaxation of smooth muscle in the penis and in the penis-to increase blood flow into the penis-in response to sexual stimulation.
  • Vardenafil- This medication works by relaxing the muscles in the penis and increasing blood flow, making it easier for men to achieve and sustain an erection when sexually aroused. If you are taking any of the following drugs, you should immediately report this to the FDA. Please read the full product insert for more information about these and other medications that can cause serious side effects.
  • Viagra- Viagra is a PDE-5 inhibitor that is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). The drug is effective in treating ED in men, but there is a risk of sexual dysfunction if you take the drug with certain other medications, such as sildenafil. Viagra should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Viagra is also available as an oral tablet.
  • Cialis- Cialis is a prescription drug used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. It works by increasing blood flow to the penis, allowing for improved erections during sexual stimulation. Cialis is available as an oral tablet and can be taken with or without food. Cialis is generally taken once or twice daily. If you take more than one dose of Cialis, you should inform your doctor before taking it.
  • Levitra- Levitra is a prescription drug used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). It works by relaxing the muscles in the penis and increasing blood flow to the penis-to help achieve and maintain an erection when sexually aroused. Levitra is available as an oral tablet.
